Dear TeachUsTech’ers,
This newsletter shows how to send a business or place from the Apple Maps app on an iPhone. The same idea works for many other places too.
These newsletters are made to be printed and kept nearby, so feel free to mark them up and write your own notes in the margins. If you have a friend that would appreciate this but don’t know how to forward emails yet, you can view our very first newsletter here on “How to Forward an Email”.
What You’ll Need
You will need your iPhone, the Apple Maps app, and the name of the place you want to share.
Step 1 – Open the Maps App
On your iPhone’s Home Screen, look for the Maps app icon (a map). Tap it once to open the Maps app.

Step 2 – Tap your finger in the search box
Find the Maps app on your iPhone and tap it to open. You will usually see a map and a search bar at the bottom.

Step 3 – Type the name of location you want to share
Once you tap the bar that says “Apple Maps.” This opens the search screen and lets you type the name of the place.
Once you see the location you want to share you can tap on the correct location.

Step 4 – Tap the share button
Once the place opens, look for the Share button. It looks like a square with an arrow pointing up.

Step 5 – Choose how you want to send the location
You can send the location by Messages, Mail, WhatsApp, or another app. You can also tap Copy if you want to paste the location somewhere yourself.

Step 6 – Enter the recipient and add message (optional)
Pick your contact, add a short note if you want, and tap the send button. The person will receive the location card and can tap it for directions.

Tech Tip
If the person uses an iPhone, Messages is usually the easiest choice. If you just want the address itself, tap Copy and paste it into any app you like.
Final Thought
Sending a map location is one of the easiest ways to avoid confusion. Instead of typing out directions, you can send the exact place in just a few taps.
