Dear TeachUsTech’ers,

This week’s TeachUsTech newsletter shows you how to turn the flashlight on and off on an iPhone. It is a simple but very useful feature when you need a little extra light in a dark room, hallway, or parking lot. This guide walks you through the quick steps to find the flashlight in Control Center and use it with confidence.

These newsletters are made to be printed and kept nearby, so feel free to mark them up and write your own notes in the margins. If you have a friend that would appreciate this but don’t know how to forward emails yet, you can view our very first newsletter here on “How to Forward an Email”.

What You’ll Learn

• how to open Control Center
• how to turn the flashlight on
• how to turn it off when you are done

Step 1 – Open Control Center

On newer iPhones, swipe down from the top-right corner. On older iPhones, swipe up from the bottom edge.

Step 2 – Tap the flashlight button

The flashlight turns on right away. To turn it off later, open Control Center again and tap the same button.

Step 3 – Slide finger to control brightness

Slide finger up and down to control the brightness. Tap the flashlight button again to turn off the flashlight.

Tech Tip

If the flashlight does not turn on, your battery may be very low. Charge your iPhone and try again.

Final Thought

This is a simple trick, but it is very handy when you are looking for something in the dark.
