Dear TeachUsTech’ers,

This week’s TeachUsTech newsletter shows you how to turn Silent Mode on and off on an iPhone. This is a handy feature when you want your phone to stop ringing during a meeting, at church, at dinner, or any other quiet moment. This guide walks you through the simple steps to use the side switch or settings, depending on your iPhone.

These newsletters are made to be printed and kept nearby, so feel free to mark them up and write your own notes in the margins. If you have a friend that would appreciate this but don’t know how to forward emails yet, you can view our very first newsletter here on “How to Forward an Email”.

What You’ll Learn

• where to find the Ring/Silent switch
• how to turn Silent Mode on
• how to turn Silent Mode off

Before you begin

On many iPhones, Silent Mode is controlled by the small switch above the volume buttons on the left side of the phone.

On some newer iPhones, you may use the Action button or go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics.

Step 1 – Turn silent mode on

Move the switch so you can see orange. That means Silent Mode is on.

Step 2 – Turn silent mode off

Move the switch back so you do not see orange. That means Silent Mode is off.

Tech Tip

If your iPhone does not have the side switch, check Settings > Sounds & Haptics or your Action button settings.

Final Thought

This is one of the most useful little controls on an iPhone, especially in meetings, movies, or restaurants.
