Dear TeachUsTech’ers,
This guide shows you how to sign in to the Uber app on your iPhone using your existing Google (Gmail) account. Once you’re set up, you’ll be able to quickly book rides whenever you need them.
Why this is helpful
• Book rides without calling a taxi company.
• See the price and driver’s arrival time before you confirm.
• Share trip details with family or friends so they know you got to your destination safely.
These newsletters are made to be printed and kept nearby, so feel free to mark them up and write your own notes in the margins. If you have a friend that would appreciate this but don’t know how to forward emails yet, you can view our very first newsletter here on “How to Forward an Email”.
What You’ll Need
• An iPhone with internet access (Wi‑Fi or cellular).
• An Apple ID so you can download apps from the App Store.
• A Google (Gmail) account and its password.
• Your mobile phone number (Uber may text you a verification code).
Step 1 – Install the Uber App
Install the Uber App from the Apple App Store. If you need a refresher you can use this past guide to assist you.

Step 2 – Sign in with Google
On the “Get started with Uber” screen, you’ll see several ways to sign in. Tap the button labeled “Continue with Google”

Step 3 – Pick or Sign In With Your Google (Gmail) Account
If you’re already signed in to Google on your iPhone, a list of accounts will appear. Tap the Gmail address you want to use for Uber (the one highlighted in orange in the picture). If you don’t see your account, choose “Use another account” and sign in with your Google (Gmail) address instead.

Step 4 – Confirm Your Google Gmail
On the “Sign in” screen, your email address should appear in the Email box. If it looks correct, tap “Next” (outlined in orange). If it’s not correct, edit the email first, then tap “Next”.

Step 5 – Enter Your Google Gmail Password
On the “Welcome” screen, type your Google password in the box (outlined in orange). When you’re finished, tap “Next” to continue.
Your iPhone may ask if you want to save this password. If you’re on your own phone and you feel comfortable, tap “Save Password” (outlined in orange). This makes it easier to sign in next time. If you prefer not to save it, tap “Not Now”.

Step 6 – Give Uber Permission to Use Google to Sign In
You’ll see a screen that says “Sign in to Uber” and shows what information Google will share with Uber (your name and email). Review this, then tap “Continue” (outlined in orange) to move on.

Step 7 – Confirm Your Name and Mobile Number
Uber will now ask you to confirm your name and your mobile phone number. Check the country flag (for example, Canada) and type your phone number in the box if it’s empty. When it looks right, tap “Next”. Uber may send a text message with a code—if you see this, enter the code to confirm your number.

Step 8 – Accept Uber’s Terms and Privacy Notice
Read Uber’s Terms of Use and Privacy Notice. When you’re ready, tap the “I Agree” checkbox if you see one, then tap “Next” (outlined in orange) to continue.

Step 10 – You’re Ready to Ride
You should now see the main Uber home screen with the “Where to?” box at the top. From here you can type in a destination to request a ride, or explore other options like Food or Retail. Your Uber account is now set up on your iPhone.

Quick Recap
Open the Uber app.
Choose “Continue with Google” and sign in using your Gmail address and password.
Confirm your name and phone number, accept Uber’s terms, and you’ll land on the main Uber screen.
